Texas Immigration Lawyer Site

So another new site we are testing is called TXIL for short, and the full name is actually Texas Immigration Lawyers and this is also part of the BriCli Project as a sub project.

For this Texas-based attorney project we will be featuring some of the immigration lawyers in all of the major areas and cities of Texas. We will be covering immigration attorneys doing business in Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Galveston, Lubbock, Houston, and smaller towns and cities such as Corpus Christi.

We had a learning curve of course because we didn't really have any writers or research analysts who have any kind of vast experience in the arena of immigration law - let alone immigration law that pertains to the State of Texas.

We will be listing the different law offices, lawyers, attorneys, and some of the precedents set in the courts of TX. The focus will of course be on immigrants getting their permanent residency status and/or their green cards. We won't be focusing exclusively on immigrants from Mexico either - we will be covering immigrants immigrating from countries all over the world.

Webbits - AKA Webbits

The competition is stiff these days for websites and I'm always on the lookout for another way of building a site that has to do with marketing products and services. As you can tell by this blog, I really only been here once in a while when I'm want to do a shout out to the new blog or site that a friend of mine is starting or one of my own.

Because of the success of Yahoo! answers I thought that it would be interesting to have a website like that, where users could come by and perhaps add their own comments and add some more information to an already existing page. That is how I came up with the idea of Web Bits. The idea being that just like Google and other domains in the cyber sphere what if you had a website that gathered little bits of information on different subjects and list of them. Then visitors (if there are any) can come by and add extra information to help the pages along. Sort of a Wikipedia idea, but with the blog.

So this is it - I launched Webbits.org yesterday and we're going to see how it goes. So far we have done a post called cheap designer handbags and another one called affordable hearing aids and it's been really fun to try to code the whole thing, as it is a little bit different than most blogs I have seen.

There is even its own identifiers and syntax in the whole harebrained scheme of the idea. Only time will tell if the idea catches on, and when I say catching on I mean that it catches on with me. because in the end and any site can do well if publishers and writer's are passionately involved the project. You will noticed that the pages on this blog use a sort of template idea whereby some of the content is tree determined using a script, and some of the information is published manually.

You really have to be publishing manually to make sure that the site carries on into the future because those old weird sites are not getting any kind of attention from the big search engines anymore. you have to have some good information, or at the very least interesting to readers or the long haul.So I wanted to

So it's time to introduce one last loan web site and it's good night Irene. We're all done in the industry and we're finishing off with a very simple site. The main loan search we are going after is get a loan, and that will be the end of it.

The first series of posts on loans is all based in New York and Florida, so we'll show some of these first loan requests.

Terry Zulit Autoblog Formula Vs WP-Robot - A Review

So I actually bought an ebook after Christmas on autoblogging, which I had given up on in late 2009. So many autoblog systems suck, and I've bought a few in the past.

I tried buying the Wp-Robot plugin, which didn't work well at all. Their idea is good, but for some reason my autoblogs never took off. I had set up 10 autoblogs using Wp-Robot and in 1 years time I was only making about an average of 28 cents a day. Not good enough for 10 domains!!!!!!

I tried others as well, and none of them worked, as in creating a constant flow of traffic and profit. You can see why I gave up.

Anyway. I purchased the Terry Zulit Autoblog Formula because I was interested to see what he was doing. I've followed his blog over the years because he seems to be actually making good Adsense money, and always tells it like it is. Even though his fairly crude and foul mouthed sometimes. Sort of a take no prisoners approach sometimes.

So this is what I found.

I bought the "Formula" for 39.99 USD and got the download link right away - no waiting.
I uploaded his entire custom Wordpress files into a new domain (.info for me)
all customized plugins, Wordpress files and themes were incorporated for easy set up
I followed his tutorial on keywords, domains, and hosting and he was right about SiteCloud
I threw in some good feeds into his customized WP-O-Matic setup
I used his choice of Cron jobs
I watched for 2 days as posts went up like clock work - no repeat posts, AND best of all he made some changes to his own re-writing synonym plugin called Global Synonym. It WORKS!

So I banged a few good inbound links to the this autoblog to see if Google would be caching the posts because usually Google won't cache anything that is "duplicate content", and to my surprise this morning the first couple of auto-posts are cached!!!!!!!

One of the sideline benefits I got from the TZAF was his method of choosing and rewriting rss feeds. That, and the Synonym plugin are worth the price of admission alone I would say. I think this is where I was going wrong in my past attempts.

It took me 2 hours to create a reasonable synonym list, but now it's on total autopilot. He's right about the synonym list. It has to be readable, and that is best part of the Global Synonym plugin. Very simple and very powerful.

I'll update this in a few months to report on my traffic.

Think someone has finally created an actual autoblog method that is inexpensive and actually does as advertised. Damn good for the dude's first ebook, with some many slick sales people selling ebooks that never deliver.

So I'm happy, but I notice that he does not make this ebook and software available on Click Bank and there is no affiliate program. I think that Mr. Zulit should be considering this, even if he says he is not a great salesperson.

UPDATE: Well I created 4 autoblogs using the Zulit system and I thought I should post my results. I chose Chitika for advertising.

1) Jewelry - Traffic has started trickling - Making about $2 - $3 a day (2 months old)

2) Handbags - Traffic trickling - Making about $1.50 - $3 a day (2 months old)

3) Clothing - Traffic more than tricklign - Making $5 - $8 a day (4 months old)

4) Light Fixtures - Traffic more than trickling - Making $6 - $10 a day. (4 months old)

So from my experience with internet income this is pretty darn good. A total of between $16 - $25 a day income, and these are new domains. Much better than Zulit claims you can make that soon, so surprising.

So far so good, and with the new Google Farmer Update in full swing now, it appears that autoblogging is not going anywhere soon. Zulit posted some traffic results after the Farmer Update here.

Kubota have had the compact range of equipment sewn up for years now with many a new kid on the block trying to steal a march.

There are a number of products that maybe, just maybe, are gaining traction but for me Kubota are still the number one.

I purchased the three cylinder, diesel Kubota B7001 compact second hand and I have to say, just like the ones we hired in, it does everything it says on the tin.

I have just rotovated an area of ground that has been used as a infill for a while so it had it's fair share of stone, brick, some plastic and wood yet the Kubota handled it with ease.

Not only did it rotovate in low third gear without power loss but it managed to deal with a very steep incline (as seen in the picture), although I did have to use the four wheel drive and differential lock to keep good traction.

Whilst the tractor unit itself is no where near new - I bought it from a local dealer but it has been imported from China - it is excellent condition and (touch wood) has several good years life left in it.

On the back I have an Agric ALJ35 98cm wide rotovator which makes easy work of the firm soil and chops it up finely.

A little note of interest if you are planning to hire in a tractor/rotovator combination to prepare a new lawn, clean up a vegetable patch or prepare some newly levelled top soil.

Use low first gear to chop up the ground. This will help to create a workable top to start with. After you have prepared the top surface, changed to third low gear. The extra speed will allow the unit to act like a leveller-grading machine.

So I was looking at setting up a solar hot water heater system for our cabin at the lake. Been researching this allot but not so sure about the intial cost of doing it.

My Daughter's New Blog

I've encouraged all family members to start blogging for money so they can at least have a retirement income after years of blogging. Adsense Lessons Update

So another session with Charles today. He will be
creating a keyword list for tomorrow so we can
build his first mini-site. His first mini-site is going
to be about Harley Davidson parts.

Going very smooth so far. He has all the software
installed on his machine now, so there rest is me
teaching him step by step how to use it. He should
be finished the lessons and on his own by next
week some time. The rest is up to him as far as
how much he works at it. All I can do is give him the
same methods I use and the same software I use.

He will have to be patient and understand that this is
all about collecting a whole bunch of pennies and nickels.
His income will slowly grow each month. After his first
month he should be making about 100 a month and so on.
It takes years to slowly build up the amount of pennies
you make a day until you are making 4-6 thousand a
month.

I am teaching him how to make money without paying for
any traffic. It's a slower process but if he succeeds, his
credit rating can be totally in the crapper and it won't matter
the slightest as far as keeping his income growing.

I did the numbers on our business and we are set to earn
a net pay of 12,000 USD in April. This is after all costs have
been subtracted from earnings.

Gotta run and get some food, shower, etc.

Found a free and easy blog service where you can blog to your heart's content and you can put your own advertising on the blog.

Most blog services (or Wiki Services) let you use their free service, but they don't let you put your Adsense on the site, and they fill your blog with their advertising. Also, they tend to be down a fair amount. AS WELL, I wanted a blog service that uses the latest SEO tricks to make sure I get some traffic on the site.

After a long look, I found OzBlogs.net. They offer a free and easy blog service where I can put my Adsense advertising on my blog. They've had ZERO down time since I've started too, which is a good sign.

Signing up for their free blog service was easy as you would expect most blog service site to be. There were over 20 good templates to use and NO hidden costs, or ugly advertising all over my posts.

The keyword is Search Search.dll Sofocus Pf,So,Getresults. I usually think Terry’s ideas are interesting, and sometimes he’s full of it, but this one is just plain hilarious.

My definition of spam is when we create pages only to gain traffic. Terry’s definition of spam is when you create nonsense pages with web site generators (or scrapers).

Terry believes that as long as you write a piece of original content, then the page is not spam. These defintitions could be debated for a very long time.

I had the most unusual email the other day. I had someone ask if we could point them in the direction of a site that gave loans for wedding dresses, in particular a loan for a bridesmaid dress order.

I told them that we didn’t find people loans for wedding dresses, and bridesmaid dresses – that we could help her with a car or motorhome, student loan, car loan, and/or motorcycle loan, but not wedding dresses.

I suggested they use Google and find what they needed there for wedding keywords.

Wedding From Hell

My sister had to have champagne colored bridesmaid dresses for her wedding (this past July 2006). She was adamant about the exact color, style, and price of the dresses.

She, and her husband Robert, spent a ton of money on this wedding – the the tune of 35 grand. Ouch!

Not only did the bridesmaids have to be wearing the champagne colored dresses, but she insisted on wearing a tea length wedding dress.

So Here is The Wedding Nightmare

The wedding took place in the back yard of a 4 acre lot outside of Chicago. It was all there and in place. Preacher had arrived and we were all taking or respective seats on the sides of the aisle.

The music started and my Dad was just starting walk my sister down the aisle – she was absolutley georgous in her dress, and the bridesmaid dress choice she made was stunning too. They all looked fantastic.

Out the blue, all three of my Mom’s golden retrievers (two of which were puppies, who were supposedly locked in the pool area….which was half dirt because of the reno work) covered in mud bolted past the minister, and through the wedding party.

All three of the dogs went straight for the bridesmaids in their champagne dresses. They jumped up on all three of them, destroying the dresses with mud, and claw snags. People were laughing. People were gasping. People were crying. Shrieks were heard in the wedding party.

When the goldens were shoed away from the bridesmaids, they bolted straight down the aisle toward my Dad and my Sister, who was in tears by now. My Dad, and both sides of the aisle, jumped out to stop the dogs from further destrying the bride. Didn’t work…

One of the puppies made it through the maze of panicked wedding guests, and leaped on my sister (who is 5’2” and one hundred pounds), and knocked her to the ground. The groom finally made to his bride-to-be and the guests had pulled the excited retriever off her. Too late.

She was covered in mud, dirt, and saliva. The wedding was destroyed and her tea length wedding dress was a shambles. HORRIBLE!

The wedding went on anyway, but the bridesmaid dresses, and the bride’s dress were covered in mud still.

Becoming a Travel Agent in The New Century

In this exciting new century there is a new way to become a travel agent. The days of the expensive travel agent courses are becoming ancient history, and working in a mall is a non-happener all together.

Classic (old-school) Travel Agent Opportunity

There are still travel agent trainings, that cost an arm & a leg, and leave you with the ability to book travel, but that’s where it ends. My wife took this old-school training and it cost her over $10,000 and she had to pay for room & board for the month-long course. She ended up with a basic privilege to book travel.

With these kind of old-school credentials, you are missing out on something BIG, and I’ll get to why further in this article.

Internet Travel Agent Opportunity

Then along came the Internet, and soon there was hundreds of web-sites offering cheap eBooks, online courses claiming that you would get the information, and training you needed to succeed as a travel agent (home-based, or overhead based).

None of these cheap deals actually deliver on their promise, and this avenue usually leaves you out of pocket for some of your hard-earned money. How much can vary – from as low as $5.95, and as high as $2500 USD. OUCH! You want to stay clear of these scams for sure.

Then Came Programs Like YTB

YTB is a smoother, and slicker Internet based company that promises to provide you with the resources to become a home-based travel agent. The problem is that there are better offers out there now. These new-world networks cost less money, set you up faster, pay higher commissions, and provide for residual income as well. The travel agents make high commissions, and they have lucrative down-lines that grow wealth perpetually.

The New-World Travel Agent System

The new-world travel agent systems use a Network that provides for online travel booking so that the agent can work from anywhere there is an Internet connection, and they pay much higher commissions. The best example to date is a new travel company known as Pro Travel Network.

This new breed of travel agent gets all the travel benefits the old-school agents get, but they have more freedom because of the Internet based model, and they (more importantly), have downlines. This is where it gets very lucrative.

The best article I was able to find that explains Pro Travel Network in detail is here. There are links to a forum, where you can watch some of these Pro Travel Network agents planning trips, signing up new recruits, and talking about their commissions. Pretty cool to watch.

The Zulit article also breaks down the different ways new members can be agents. They can either sign up like the old-school agent with the ability to only book travel, or they can sign up for the PTN multi-level-marketing side.
This is not unlike the old Amway system, but it’s based on travel booking, and this is why it’s such a lucrative system. Signing up people for travel deals, and a residual income is an easy sell.

At this writing, I have not become a home-based travel agent, but my sister did a year ago. She joing PTN, and her income is now double what she made as a book-keeper. She has been traveling all over the world, and I’m getting quite envious with the schedule she has.

As I always suggest to my conservative-minded readers, don’t jump into this program without reading allot about it.

Found another Zulit post of interest. All of us who make a full time living online, eventually end up traveling allot. As long as we have high-speed Internet wherever we go, it’s all good. The only problem is the expense.

So I’ve been looking for a way to legitimately write-off all our travel. Don’t want the tax-man knocking on my door you know. I was looking into becoming a travel agent a year ago, but gave up on it, as getting the course, and such, was a pain and expense I didn’t want.

As luck has it, I met one of the go-getters of Pro Travel Network a couple of weeks ago. (Anil) So I signed up in order to promote the travel network, and also become a travel agent.

Zulit Posting Earnings Series

Found this interesting post over at Zulit. Terry is posting all his profit and loss graphs, and reports. His earnings are 100% online, so it’s inspiring to see these results. He’s been at this for over 3 years now. See the Zulit earnings series here.

This is a simple earnings graph for 2007. This is total average income, total average costs, and total average net profit. The spread sheets this came from have a ton of variables, but this one is a simple graphic on the overall numbers.

Next I’ll try some of the 3D and pie graphs to see which ones show better.

Next posted earnings graphs will be in more detail as to the source of the income, and costs. For the purpose of this series on a Wordpress blog, and this particular theme choice, I need to start using a different configuration.

Notice on the month of May (#5 at the bottom of the graph), I cut it off, because there is of course no numbers yet to display, and the graph takes a nose dive. Net income seems to be floating around the $7000 mark.

I’ll be starting some new sites and campaigns this summer, which will hopefully send these lines in a northern direction.

Posted On Zulit as Terry Begins Daily Earnings Reports

This is the first post on Zulit’s blog regarding his daily Internet income.

This started off as a slow day, with only a gross income of
$150 total at 2:00PM Mountain time. Sometimes the commission reports are slow depending on the day.

This was a Tuesday, and generally a busy day online. This Tuesday would come in as a so-so day. Keep in mind that June 12th is a transitional day for my vectors (markets), and we are on the down-slope to the slower season now. By August we will lower considerably, and we will hit the year’s rock bottom for net income early September.

This day gets a thumbs up because of the high affiliate commission level. This is not the norm. Usually much less than this for my business.

Payday Loan Companies Targeting Immigrants?

Very good post here from Financing Usa (origin Payday Loan Times) on the possible abuse of immigrants by Payday cash advance companies. Your humble narrator doesn’t quite buy this, but it’s a clear argument for sure.

Illegal immigrants could fall prey to loan sharks and other unscrupulous quick payday loans lenders if they have to pay $5,000 in fines and thousands more in fees and back taxes as required under the immigration reform measure now before Congress, some advocates are warning.

Many immigrants work low-wage jobs and have virtually no assets. As a result, they often have poor credit and are forced to borrow on the street from no fax payday loan stores.

“We’re real concerned about the potential for fraud,” said Beatriz Ibarra, who studies Hispanic finances for the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest Hispanic advocacy group and a tepid supporter of the draft legislation. “They’ll find a way to pay, but how?”

Some say the measure also could lead to abuse by employers, who could offer to pay employees’ fines in return for repayment arrangements that could be difficult to satisfy, leading to what would amount to indentured servitude. However, advocates and other experts say that is unlikely, because most employers probably wouldn’t find that sort of arrangement worth the cost and risk.

It is not exactly clear how much time the immigrants would have to pay the fines and fees to achieve legal status and eventually obtain a green card, which confers permanent residency. But because of the backlog of green card applications, immigrants may have up to eight years to come up with the money.

“It’s a lot of money, but if they gave us the opportunity, we’ll see how we can get it,” said a young immigrant mother of a 2-year-old U.S.-born daughter, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of deportation.

The native of Guerrero, Mexico, said she has no idea how she would get the money â€” which could amount to $3,000 for the initial visa application and $4,000 plus back taxes for a green card. However, she said she is confident she would manage, even though she only makes minimum wage working at a Mexican grocery in Georgia and could conceivably be in need of payday loans.

To make it across the border, many illegal immigrants pay thousands of dollars to smugglers, who sometimes threaten them with death if they don’t pay their debts. Then, many make low wages working in agriculture, construction and the hotel and restaurant industry. Out of that, they often send money back home to support their families. And because they are illegal, they tend to distrust banks.

“If you have a family of four or five, it’s going to add up to thousands of dollars, and I just can’t imagine anyone having that amount of money stored in a shoebox â€” so someone will come up with a lending scheme that will be close to usury,” said Robert Moser, deputy director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of San Diego.

The Pew Hispanic Center reported last spring that the average weekly earnings for illegal immigrant males who arrived between 2000 and 2005 were around $480, and about $100 more for those who arrived before 2000.

About half of Hispanic immigrants have no checking or savings accounts, and those who have credit cards often pay exorbitant fees and have difficulty managing their debt, according to a study co-authored by Ibarra. Hence, the possibility of cash loans.

Bad Credit - Zero Down - Sub-Prime Loans

This kind of lending is a bad idea, unless you have a serious and viable plan for repayment, and house-hold income.

Sub-prime lenders now offer financing packages with zero down. Interest rates are higher on these types of loans, but they make purchasing a house easier. And unlike a conventional loan, there is no private mortgage insurance required. There are two types of zero-down mortgage packages, each with their own requirements.

Types Of Zero-Down Loans

100% financing, as it names implies, offers complete financing of your property. The other option, 80/20, finances your mortgage with two loans. Both loans may be carried by your lender, but sometimes the seller or a second lender is required to carry the 20% mortgage.

100% financing is easier to deal with, but not all lenders will offer this type of home loan. 80/20 financing is more common, but takes some negotiation if the seller is involved.

Qualifications For Zero-Down

Each lender has their own criteria for determining who will qualify for a zero-down loan. Most sub-prime lenders require any bankruptcies or foreclosures to have been at least twelve months ago. A conventional loan requires these to be discharged two to four years ago.

While a credit score of 600 or higher is best, large cash reserves can also qualify you. Six to twelve month’s worth of cash reserves in the form of savings, money market, or other liquid assets are considered ideal.

If you choose 80/20 financing with the seller carrying the second mortgage, you can qualify with sub-prime lenders with a score of 560.

Zero-Down Sub-prime Lenders

You can find zero-down sub-prime mortgages with both conventional and niche sub-prime lenders. Make sure that you request quotes from as many mortgage lenders has possible to be sure you find the lowest rate and best terms.

You will also want to decide what type of mortgage you want. An ARM is easier to qualify for and has lower rates. A fixed rate mortgage offers the security of a constant interest rate over the life of your loan.

Typically an ARM will be a better deal if you plan to refinance within a couple of years. After you have improved your credit history, you can refinance for a conventional mortgage with low interest rates.

Americans Learning To Invest Their Personal Money

This is a great article/piece on SM, regarding the education citizens need to invest their own money wisely, and prosper. Interesting to see a lack of interest these days.

Let’s face it, it’s more fun to be at the golf course, than sitting in front of a computer, with a phone attached to your earlobe.

Taped to the big wooden doors of the Charlotte, Michigan, library, a photocopied flier offers a free Saturday afternoon course on investing. The program is new to the community library, the pilot in a statewide investor-education campaign. Funded with $30,000 of government money, with more on the way, it looks like a gem: It's free, it isn't selling anything, and participants can sign up for one-on-one financial counseling.

But 10 minutes before the seminar, something is missing — people. The flier, it turns out, was posted only two days ago, and the only other advance notice came in the form of a few radio ads. Standing before an almost empty room, Linda Cena, the state's securities regulator, welcomes two senior citizens and the library director and introduces a financial planner who has driven 80 minutes from suburban Detroit. He begins his PowerPoint presentation with "What is the stock market?" and ends two hours later with "Three keys to building wealth."

The septuagenarian couple don't take notes, nor do they really want financial counseling. "I wish we'd heard this 30 years ago," says one of them, wondering aloud "why more people hadn't come." Her rhetorical question is swallowed by the library's stuffy, echoing stillness.

That silence may be the sound of squandered opportunity. For four years now, Uncle Sam and all 50 states have been engaged in an unprecedented effort to educate Americans about investing, coaching them in everything from 401(k) plans to how to avoid fraud. It is a novel idea indeed, made possible by the high-profile 2003 settlement between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the brokerage industry that earmarked $85 million for investor education. But if you haven't heard about it, or had a chance to sit in on a free seminar, you're not alone. Even some of the officials who are funding the programs concede that some efforts have been disappointing.

At a time when more Americans than ever are interested in the stock market and retirement planning, this money would seem to be a welcome windfall. But a SmartMoney look into just how it's being spent doesn't inspire much confidence. In Minnesota, it's gone to distributing a free CD in supermarkets with such generic financial tips as "obtain information about your investment possibilities from reputable sources" — in Ojibwa and Amharic, among other languages. Meanwhile, in Buffalo, N.Y., a new PBS show called MoneyTrack offers wiser tips but with one drawback: It runs only on Tuesdays at 5 a.m.

The settlement brokered by the SEC divided the investor-education money into two parts: $30 million was turned over to the Investor Protection Trust, a nonprofit group set up to fund state-by-state programs; the rest was designated to support a national initiative. Four years later, however, the states have used less than $8.5 million. Meanwhile, the national endeavor, which started making grants only a year ago, has deployed just $2.1 million, largely for research projects. For now, it's uncertain when the rest will be spent, or on what. "No one has ever had $50 million to spend on doing the right thing, and it didn't have to be hard," says Charles Ellis, a prominent investment consultant tapped by the SEC to develop a national investor-education plan — only to see his efforts dismissed. "We really ended up surprised and disappointed."

For their part, the folks in charge of the money say better programs are on the way. But financial education, even when it's done well, is a tricky proposition. As any financial planner will tell you, people are often reluctant to examine their finances, and for those just getting started, the whole idea of saving and investing is often abstract and confusing. John Gannon, who heads the NASD Foundation, which oversees the national programs, says there's too often a disconnect between the programs that are proposed — which involve creating web sites, brochures and curricula — and what actually works. "They don't focus on how to get those materials into the hands of people who need them," he says.

JIM LOWE ISN'T AN investing expert, nor is he an educator. What the former salesman does know is how to raise money for a consortium of 12 Minnesota public radio stations, where he serves as development director. So when he heard there was grant money available for investor-education programs three years ago, he says, "I immediately saw the potential." Lowe quickly drafted a proposal for a series of public service announcements warning recent immigrants about fraud and shipped it to the Investor Protection Trust. After five months of back-and-forth discussion, Lowe's plan to use foreign-language radio to reach these new groups was approved with a budget of $210,000 — nearly half of the state's allocation for investor education. How far that money went, though, may seem a little disappointing. Most paid for 40-second radio spots — in Ojibwa, Hmong and Amharic, Spanish and English — with advice that ranged from "get things in writing" to "stay alert." The ads, which were also recorded on CDs and distributed free at local supermarkets, referred listeners to a web site — that doesn't offer any investing resources, only information about the consortium. Lowe argues that the project was a big success. "It's hard to gauge any kind of advertising," he says. "But people have told us they think this is fantastic."

Multiply that effort times 50, and you start to understand the problem with this exercise in good intentions. In Texas the money is being used to promote the state regulator's office, says Texas Securities Commissioner Denise Crawford, "or no one would even know we exist." California spent some of the money to warn members of the military about payday lending. And several states pooled their money to award a $1.6 million grant to develop the public television series MoneyTrack. The first 13 episodes, which aired last year in Buffalo and elsewhere, averaged 450,000 viewers per episode — less than half the audience for reruns of Mama's Family. So does any of this help investors make better choices? "We don't have any data, but I think we're making a difference," says Montana State Auditor John Morrison. His state has used some of its money to sponsor seminars covering, among other things, lottery fraud. It's not saving or investing, Morrison concedes, but "if it's what you want to do with your money, better to play the real lottery than a fake one."

TO BE SURE, MOST of this was not what the SEC had in mind in 2003, when it reached a $1.4 billion settlement with 10 brokerage houses in which they neither admitted nor denied allegations that they had provided misleading stock research during the dot-com boom. With the money set aside for the national education effort, the agency drafted Ellis, the Wall Street consultant, and George Daly, now dean of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown, to develop a strategy. For a year, they and a team of experts combed through research on the topic and came to an alarming conclusion: There was no chance that people would sit down for even a short, relatively convenient, relatively entertaining program on the principles of investing. "The smartest people I knew said, 'You will fail,'" says Ellis.

What would work? The team wanted to direct the funds toward educating the people who run workplace-based savings plans, like 401(k)s. But to some, that plan appeared to hand the money right back to the financial-services industry. "It wasn't a frivolous idea," says a person who worked at the SEC at the time. "But it wouldn't play in Peoria." Frustrated, Ellis resigned, and the funding for national investor education was turned over to the NASD Investor Education Foundation, a nonprofit attached to the National Association of Securities Dealers, in September 2005, more than two years after it was first set aside.

Academics and financial planners alike agree that money spent producing still more web sites, brochures, public service announcements and curricula falls almost uniformly short of helping investors. For one thing, consumer groups and mutual fund companies have been doing that for a long time. "The last thing we need is more materials," says Nancy Smith, who ran the Office of Investor Education at the SEC before becoming vice president of investment services for AARP Financial. "We're not one web site away from successfully teaching people about investing." The folks in charge of doling out investor-education money seem equally frustrated. Don Blandin, who runs the Investor Protection Trust, which distributes money to the states, says the efforts are by definition all over the map. "Every day I'm trying to turn 50 dials, trying to make some progress. But I can't turn them all at the same time."

For its part, the NASD Foundation thinks it has a solution — one that's supported even by people who wonder whether traditional financial education can work at all. Instead of starting from scratch, the foundation plans to tap into groups that already have a wide membership base. Among the early recipients is the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education, which was awarded $630,000 to teach marriage counselors to talk finances with divorcing couples. Similar reasoning yielded funding for the Center for American Nurses to create a financial-education program directed at the country's 2.9 million nurses. "We want the information to be accurate, unbiased and objective," says the NASD Foundation's Gannon. "And we want to make sure it's targeted to the audience."

Neither program is beyond the planning stages, but they seem closer to the right idea: getting information to people who might not otherwise ask. But projects like these are rare. Given what's out there, Gannon doesn't think the foundation will be able to give away more than $25 million by 2015. The rest of the money will go to programs sponsored and developed by the foundation itself.

Still, even projects that seem innovative in the planning stages can struggle in the execution, which may be among the biggest challenges for this experiment. The NASD Foundation funded and applauded, for example, a program designed by the Partnership for After School Education to teach investor education through its 1,400 member organizations. And on a frosty Thursday afternoon in February at a public school in the Bronx, more than a dozen young adults grab a slice of pizza and settle in for the day's "Dollars and Sense" lesson on investing. It all seems very promising until Ken deRegt, a 20-year Morgan Stanley veteran and a member of the PASE board, starts talking about risk-return strategies. He discusses the difference between bond yields and dividends and mentions the 2001 market crash. He's been talking for at least 30 minutes when a young woman raises her hand with a fundamental question: "I don't get it," she says. "Why do I have to invest, anyway?"

"What doesn't make sense to you?" he asks, smiling patiently.

"Everything," she says, shaking her head.

Found Agency Slapped By Google For Black Hat Techinques

The Found Agency has recently been slapped hard by Google for using what is know as “black hat techniques”. Black Hat techniques are methods whereby an Internet property is promoted through the use of artificial linking. Black hat techniques are widely used by webmasters, in an effort to gain search engine ranking. The higher your ranking – the more money you make. Google always catches up with these methods in time.

STORY: The Found Agency, whose estimated $3 million sale to the Photon marketing group is due to be completed later this year, has admitted to pushing the boundaries of Google's guidelines to get other sites to link to its website foundagency.com.au to improve its ranking on the search engine.

Paid search engine marketing and manipulating the more trusted, natural results have become highly popular marketing channels as more people go to search engines such as Google to find services and products.

But Google appears to have stopped counting potentially thousands of links pointing to Found Agency: last month foundagency.com.au had the top natural search position for the term "search engine optimisation", but by yesterday morning it had dropped to 52nd.

Google Australia would not comment on the case -- talk of which had spread like wildfire through the search marketing industry -- but a spokesman pointed to its webmaster quality guidelines, which covered the most common forms of deceptive behaviour.

The guidelines tell site designers to "avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings" and directs them not to participate in "link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking".

"Google may respond negatively to other misleading practices not listed here," the company stated. Industry blogs such as seo-sydney.blogspot.com have cited one method used by Found Agency -- whereby it supplies numerous unrelated websites with a hit counter that tabulates the number of visitors but that also contains an advertising link to foundagency.com. au -- as a "black hat link-building strategy".

Found Agency co-founder Tim Macdonald said Google had downgraded the site's search ranking but refused to comment on whether the company used black hat techniques. He said some strategies the company used were "in the grey area".

"We've just had a penalty applied to our site," Mr Macdonald said.

"We haven't been banned."

Similar action does not appear to have been taken on Yahoo, which had about 14,000 links pointing to foundagency.com.au on Wednesday.

The search engine optimisation industry is split into white hat - or approved --methods of achieving a high ranking for a website and black hat practices.

Clear Light Digital co-founder Jamie Silver said black hat tactics were about fooling search engines to achieve an artificially high ranking rather than optimising them for users.

Mr Macdonald said Found Agency had taken "a calculated decision" to aggressively promote its own website but said it did not use the same methods forits clients, which include Realestate.com.au, Travel.

com.au and Wotif. "There are clear things such as hidden text (which are banned by Google)," Mr Macdonald said.

"We've never done anything like that where there are clear guidelines. The rest of the rules are open to interpretation."

Said one rival, who asked not to be named: "Google says a link is a vote of quality and that's not a vote of quality."

Mr Macdonald refused to comment directly on the use of the hit counter. "The only way to rank for a term like (search engine optimisation) is to be exceptionally aggressive," he said.

Mr Macdonald said the company had been open about its practices with its clients.

"Working for a client, you have to stay way, way, away from the boundaries of what could be perceived as being not in Google's rule book," Mr Macdonald said. "Equally, you have to know where the boundaries are. We have tested the boundaries with other sites."

com.au, said he was not aware that Found Agency had been penalised by Google but planned to look into it.

So would Found use grey-hat tactics to improve its ranking on Google again?

"No comment," Mr Macdonald said. "There are other big name agencies that have seen exactly the same thing (happen to them) and they're very strong businesses powering along today We always knew the risks."

Review of Brazen Careerist Review From IWTYTBR

Pluralistic ignorance is a fascinating concept in social psychology. It’s a phenomenon “which involves several members of a group who think that they have different perceptions, beliefs, or attitudes from the rest of the group” (more). For example, Prentice and Miller, two Princeton social psychologists, found that college students tend to think other students drink more than they actually do. Schroeder and Prentice noted that â€œthe majority of students believe that their peers are uniformly more comfortable with campus [drinking] than they are.” This means that

“because everyone who disagrees behaves as if he or she agrees, all dissenting members think that the norm is endorsed by every group member but themselves. This in turn reinforces their willingness to conform to the group norm rather than express their disagreement. Because of pluralistic ignorance, people may conform to the perceived consensual opinion of a group, instead of thinking and acting on their own perceptions” (source)

I find this time and time again when I talk to my friends. People will say things like, “Everyone’s” earning $70,000/year when they graduate, so I should, too. Or obody lives with their parents so it would be embarrassing if I did. We often make decisions based on what we see of our friends, but we don’t see the bigger picture and realize the differences in internal attitudes and behaviors across individuals and groups. Pluralistic ignorance colors our decision-making and the worst part is, we don’t even know it.

That’s why I like the new book by Penelope Trunk, Brazen Careerist: The New Rules for Success. Penelope writes for the Boston Globe and Yahoo Finance (she’s covered me before), and she has an attitude. I mean that in a good way: Unlike so many books for young people, this one reads like a real person wrote it, not a damn robot. You can actually hear her in her writing. Now, she and I disagree about some career-related things, but she does a great job explaining her reasoning.

And her advice is good. She talks about issues we care about living with our parents, getting our first job, negotiating salaries, starting a company, how to make ends meet but reassures us that the things we feel guilty about are actually very common (see my thoughts about young people and guilt here).

For example, she writes that Job-hopping in your early twenties is a great idea especially if you’re still sleeping at your parents house. After all, the point of this period in life is to find the right work for you. But if the job-hopping doesn’t stop by age thirty, the feeling of instability intensifies to crisis. How many of your friends don’t know what they want to do, but feel pressured to pick one single job and focus on it?

I know plenty. I also know plenty of friends who donâ€™t know what they want to do, so they go back to grad school. Penelope shows a better way to think that decision.

That’s what’s interesting about the book: It includes not only advice on how to think about large, ambiguous topics like going back to grad school and office politics, but also includes tactical advice that’s actually good. When it comes to creating your resume, for instance, she writes,

She writes excellent tactical advice for building your cover letter, negotiating your salary, writing a resume that stands out (Ditch the line about references on request. It’s implied. Of course if someone wants a reference, you will give one).

But more than tactical advice, she uses research from places like Harvard Business School not just her personal opinions to remind us not to feel guilty about what we’re doing. For instance, did you know that 50% of the Class of 2003 was still living at home 3 years later?

This book reminds me to stop fighting against the same things that everyone else my age is struggling with. If I wanted to live at home so I can afford to take a low-paying job that I love, that chapter on living at home would be worth the book alone. In other words, stop worrying and feeling guilty about what other people think and focus on the important goals. The best thing a book can do is reassure us, refocus us, and then give us the tools to do more than we thought we could do. This book is a great start.

Brazen Careerist isn’t perfect, of course. It’s overly list-y for my tastes, reading in some parts like a Top 10 Reasons to blog post. Also, the book is itself a bit unfocused, with points on starting your own business, perfecting your resume, working with your manager, optimizing your personal life, and doing yoga (?). But the number of insights I got from the book made up for it.

The book is good. So is the blog. And Penelope is a great woman with tons of interesting thoughts about career issues.

The Importance of Blog Leverage

The importance of a good blog can never under-stated in if you are in the business of making a living from Internet traffic. I suggest to all of those in that category to build a Wordpress blog and grow it up with fresh, quality content. When I say quality I mean spelling and grammer as well. It's no secret the the search engines see spelling and grammer when they spider in depth to learn about your online pages.

As you grow a quality blog, your Internet real estate becomes highly respected by the search engines and now you have some Internet leverage. Then you can introduce the web to your new sites and projects simply by creating a link from your high ranking blog to you new entity. Your "new entity" does not have to be an extremely powerful or "high quality" site to get the spider attention you desire.

This system work quite well so if you don't have Wordpress blog going yet, get going and start building one. Make the subject matter of the blog fairly general so that when you link to othere sites in the future, there will be some kind of relative subject matter. Also DON'T LINK BACK to your precious blog from your new sites. That is considered "cross linking" by some of the search engines and will get your domains banned. As long as you only link ONE-WAY to your sites and the sites are related to your blog there is no problem.

This case may seem a little extreme, but it may not be as far fetched as you think. Most affiliates don't even get as far as Dennis! 99% of all affiliates barely make a living on the Internet while the other 1% are making a killing! What is the difference? Why do so many fail?

Well, what Dennis and the other 99% don't understand is that there is a lot more to affiliate success then just sending potential customers to an affiliates site. The next 6 steps will reveal some secrets of top affiliates. They are simple but their simplicity should not be overlooked. Follow them and you will succeed.

First, select an affiliate program that pays out a good commission. Anything less than $20 should not be considered. Then you should buy the product and use it. A personal, honest recommendation is very convincing and will help you in your credibility.

Make sure your affiliate program provides you with enough materials to help you succeed. Some affiliate programs will actually give you a re-brand able ebook to brand with your affiliate links that you can give away. Either way you will have to have some kind of free ebook or report to give away, so if your affiliate doesn't provide you with one you can buy one or make one yourself.

For instance, you could say something like; Hey thanks for getting Top Ten Secrets of Super Affiliates! Before you read it, go get a copy of insert affiliate here before the price goes up. It will reveal all the secrets of the world's greatest affiliates.

Your emails should be short, but effective. Oh yeah, send them another freebie that they weren't expecting. They will love that, and it will increase their confidence in you and the chance they buy from you will increase!

The last step is to advertise for your free report or ebook. Article writing is the best way to do that for now. It's free, and until you get a website it's your only choice. In your article resource box, have your reader send a blank email to your auto responder to get your free report. Submit 3-4 articles a week and before you know it you'll have a list growing. It will take a while to build your list, but it will become invaluable to you.

How Much Money Can An Adsense Niche Site Make?

When new-comers start trying to make money with Adsense niche sites they usually ask themselves one big question. HOW MUCH money do these sites make?

That depends on the category of the site, the nature of the content, the amount of content, originality of the content, and overall word count.

1) If the site is all about Insurance it will make more per click than a site all about tiddly winks.

2) If the content is completely original it will get more traffic and of course make more money.

3) If the site has more content it will usually make more money, as long as the article pages are not in a highly-competitive area.

4) If your site has a high overall word count then it will beat out more competition. The search alogs count how many different words are used throughout your site. This IS very important so try to use allot of different words through out your site.

YPN or Adsense

It's a question that comes up often for online marketers. Should I use YPN or Adsense for textual advertising?

There's advantages and disadvantages depending on what your website subject and category is. If you have web content that's related to products and services that are extremely competitive, you will likely be fine using YPN. You may even make more money with YPN.

But; if your web site or blog content is related to an extremely uncommon subject, product, or service, you will have trouble making as much money with YPN as you made (or make) with Adsense clicks. The reason is that the YPN network doesn't have as many advertisers yet and there is'nt enough ads to display on "niche sites". I thihk this will change in time, but for now that's the jist of it. Extreme niche sites displaying YPN ads will have low click through percentages and low earnings overall.

My approach is to stay loyal to the companies that have been consistent paying their commission on time. Some Internet marketers turn to YPN if they've lost their Adsense account for some reason or other.

One BIG con to YPN is if you're a web publisher that lives outside the United States. You have to some how get a U.S. tax identification in order to be paid. I'm hopeful that the Yahoo! Publishing Network (YPN) will soon allow international publishers to take part in their advertising model.

With the on-going rush for grant money, people around the world are clamouring online and offline for some free government cash. As I'm sure you know, many of these government grant guides are scammy and spammy deals -- you would be right.

There are a few government grant guides that seem to have the correct information to garner success, but it still takes some work succeed. Even with the right instructions, forms, and education -- you need to roll up your sleeves a little.

Patience is another virtue. If you succeed in getting a government grant it will likely take more time than you think. It can take years depending on your case and circumstances. Don't get me wrong, I've read about people who do succeed and it can be done. Just be warned to get a decent grant guide, and spend some time reading up before you start applying.

When Will I Learn`- Debts & Holidays

It's that time of year again when everyone is caught up in trying pay down their debts from Xmas time. It's been the same pattern since the dawn of the industrial revolution, that consumers in America are paying down debt from the holiday seasond.

Not only are we all (yes....think I'm talking to myself here more than anything) paying down credit card debt, line of credit debt, and bank account overdrafts - we're also trying to pull some pennies and dollars together for the IRS (or whatever tax department your country has). This combination is deadly if you are not earning alot of some good bucks via wages or self-employment.

I think we should all switch over to the infamous "Festivus" celebration as made popular on the Seinfeld show. Festivus was orginally invented by Dan O'Keefe and his son made it popular on the Seinfeld show. The basic idea is that you make Christmas cheap by only erecting a silver pole instead of a Christmas tree. You don't exchange many gifts (if any) and we "sit around the table and tell each other how much we dissapointed each other all year long" Funny but people do this now since the airing the Seinfeld's "The Strike" episode.

If was'nt for the kiddies I would like to celebrate Festivus and make it easy on the wallet and easy on the sweat glands - not to mention the stress nerves that get strung during the silly season.

Yep....got a whack of debt to pay down and as usual, we'll squeeze by.......next year will be different. Yeh...right!

When seeking debt relief, be an informed shopper. Do your research before signing on with any one service. Here are some questions to ask:

How much does it cost? Many less-than-reputable services charge hundreds of dollars to start up, money that doesn't go to any of your creditors.
Does the service notify credit bureaus about your enrollment in their program? Some do and some don't. Creditors may still elect to put a bad mark on your credit report, but the agency you are looking at for debt relief shouldn't.

1.) Often merchants change their a program and render your affliate code obsolete (meaning you don't get paid any longer for your traffic until you change your affiliate code. If you have many many sites you will find this will cause you to lose commission right and left.

2.) Sometimes merchants don't pay on time. (Adsense and YPN do pay on time)

3.) Once and awhile merchants decide not to pay you. This is rare, but it does happen. (Adsense and YPN have never stiffed me)

4.) Many merchants have minimum payout threshold which can fail you in this way; often you run a test by promoting a merchant and find out they convert BADLY. So you withdrawal from promoting them and of course you don't reach their payment threshold and the money you've earned is never sent to you.

5.) Many affiliate programs (and I mean MANY) have terrible tracking. Their servers are not updated properly, and they can be slow to credit you for your earning. (Adsense and YPN are updated through frequently, so you can watch earning come through)

These are just some of the problems with affiliate programs. There are many more that I don't feel like whining about right now. I'll maybe list those off later in another post.

The Google Guys Book

Got the Google Story book (in paperback) for Christmas and started reading it yestereday. It's an interesting read when David Vise and Mark Malseed finally start talking about the facts in the life of Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. I found it very interesting to learn about Larry and Sergey's impressive educational background.

The beginning of the book raves on a little too much about the accomplishments of Google and all that work within the Googleplex. I too see Larry Page and Sergey Brin to be amazing people, but the authors over-do the praise a little.

I have more to read, and I'll update this when I've finished it.

Federal Reserve Board Drops Citigroup Inc. Litigation

The Federal Reserve Board on Friday terminated all litigation against Citigroup Incorporated. A sigh of relief for all involved. You can read more on this issue here.

Below are some of enforcement actions the Federal Reserve can take when a private company is proven to be managing their business outside US laws and bi-laws.

Since August 1989, the Federal Reserve has made enforcement orders public in accordance with the Financial Institutions Recovery, Reform, and Enforcement Act of 1989.

Since November 1990, it has also made written agreements public in accordance with the Crime Control Act of 1990. The formal enforcement actions are made public through a press release that includes a copy of the order or agreement.

Formal enforcement actions taken by the Federal Reserve before August 1989 are not public.

The Federal Reserve supervises the following entities and has the statutory authority to take formal enforcement actions against them;

- Generally, the Federal Reserve takes formal enforcement actions against the above entities for violations of laws, rules, or regulations, unsafe or unsound practices, breaches of fiduciary duty, and violations of final orders. Formal enforcement actions include cease and desist orders, written agreements, removal and prohibition orders, and orders assessing civil money penalties.

- Edge and agreement corporations

- Branches and agencies of foreign banking organizations operating in the United States and their parent banks

- State member banks

- Bank holding companies

- Non-bank subsidiaries of bank holding companies

- Officers, directors, employees, and certain other categories of individuals associated with the above banks, companies, and organizations (referred to as "institution-affiliated parties")

I was asked by a good blogging friend (Terry Zulit) to do some research on unsecured business capital advances. Business Startup Plan - 2 For 1

I was visiting one of my favorite sites for entrepreneur information and news this morning and they had a good article on business startups. In particular I enjoyed reading the note about buying an existing company with an existing cash flow. I would like to add a little to this idea.

When I first started out trying to make money with my online and off-line business model, I never would have opted for buying someone's existing web site or blog. I would never have put up money to start my business because I was like most Internet entrepreneurs in that I was a coward. Sounds like a sick comment to say that Internet entrepreneurs are cowards, but let's face it; when your expenses and overhead for startup are only 7 dollars a month (if that) for your web hosting and domain, you aren't taking any risk.

If I had to do it again, I would have considered buying an existing business, but this is how I would do it.

I would only buy the business if it came with training
I would only buy it if it had a proven and consistent cash flow that I could monitor

On the first bullet I'm getting at the learning curve. The old saying applies to my own experience; "if I knew then what I know now I would be further ahead". If you can arrange to tutored or taught how to run the business as part of the deal for buying the business, you are WAY ahead. As a matter of fact, even if you learned the art of that business and then flipped it back on the market, the education would have been MORE than worth it.

in the end, it comes down to your knowledge on how to build a site or blog (or bricks and mortar business)
how to maintain traffic flow
how to convert that traffic
how to choose products and services that convert well
how to utilize resources for the lowest possible price
how to best utilize resources for the biggest possible gain for all of the above
how to choose a business category
how to understand the market's vectors
how to understand a markets potential
how to diversify any business that is up and running
how and when to outsource

If I've learned anything since I've been online, it's that the education and knowledge we gain is far more important that than present cash flow of your business. Once you understand how to repeat a successful startup, you can basically print money.

So when you are shopping around for a business model to buy into, get a 2 for 1 deal. You buy only if it comes with expertise they are willing to bring your way.

From Employee To Self Employed

First of all, when you become self employed you need to look at debt with a completely different lense. If you run your business in debt during the slow part of your business season, it's not really time to panic. At least that is what I try to tell myself ;-)

The interest you pay on your line of credit, or operating line, can be written off at different percentages, depending on the tax laws in your, state, province, or country. If you are used to being an employee, you will likely squirm at the thought of having a red balance on your line of credit, but you need to get over it and start thinking in terms of running a company.

Many companies, large and small, service a large debt and they service that debt sometimes until they sell off the company. Yep, sometimes they run in the hole during their entire existence. That is why we refer to some folks as being rich on paper, but can't really afford to be summering in France. Of course when a healthy company is sold, the owners are often green with wealth.

The main thing is that your company has a cash flow that is healthy over the year. Try not to get too wrapped up if your cash flow does not cover your expenses for one particular month. As long as the busy months make up for it, you are doing just fine.

What ever you do, don't look at your business based on one day. When I first became self employed I would sometimes judge my business based on ONE HOUR! Now if that's a not a recipe for self-induced stress, especially when you are on your own and you've been used to getting a check from an employer every two weeks. Personally, I'm starting to understand how the self-employment gig goes, but it's been an adjustment for sure.

Make Sure You Hire Professionals For Your Accounting

One thing you can do to reduce your concerns, is hire professional accountants and bookkeepers. I know that many people become self-employed try and do their own accountanting and bookkeeping, as well as their own tax return preparations. I'd advise against that choice.

In the long run, these professionals can save you much more than what you save doing all the bean counting yourself. Besides, the time you spend pulling your hair out with a calculator and a mountain of paper, you could be creating more revenue streams. Do what you do best and hire someone to do what you despise doing. Of course, if you enjoy doing books and tax returns, that's a different stroy - fill your boots. Personally, I would rather pay experts for that work, and spend my time increasing revenue.

When you are done at year end you can see all of your expenses and all of your income meticulously prepared for the taxman. You can see how a large percentage of your costs are legitimate tax write-offs, and how the interest you paid on your line of credit can be part of those tax write-offs.

It Takes Time To Really Judge Your New Company

Once you become fully self-employed, you'll need to be operating for some time before you see where you are at. Until you've had a year end, you won't really have an accurate picture of where your business's financial health is at. Sometimes you just have to put your head down and work hard, when you feel uncertain of your business future. Sometimes is just luck, so we have to bear down on the tasks of the day, and go for it!

If you find that in the first couple of years you don't make any profit, but barely keep the lights on and food in the fridge, try not to panic. This is normal - actually it better than normal - some businesses run deep in the red for many years, before they see a cent of actual profit. If in the first year of running your business, you are paying down all your costs and you have enough to live off, and don't run any personal debt, YOU ARE WINNING BIG TIME!

Don't burn yourself out with over-work and over-worry. Just work smarter and not harder as you go along. Focus on what avenues really make the money, and maintain a consistent level of growth.

Keyword Market Vectors - Blogging Markets

The law of life is that when someone is flying high, others will be crawling slow - and all fortunes can be reversed in the blink of an eye.

I've been spending allot of time lately studying the different traffic levels for the most popular product and service keywords. There are literally thousands of extremely popular markets (and keywords) making the decision which keyword market to compete for is difficult. Yes, there are fancy (and so fancy) databases available that supposedly tell you which keywords pay the most in the Adsense realm, but you really don't know until you have launched a site and tested it for real. Meaning real traffic from real people who really looking for a product or service.

What I've found interesting is watching the popular keyword searches fluctuate from month to month. For example; school supplies is a query made in massive proportion during August and September, but drops off considerably in October. I could list many many more, but you get the point. This is why diversification can be so important.

If I was to start all over with this Internet income challenge, I would have built maybe 4 big blogs (instead of 40 little sites or blogs) and I would have chosen 4 keyword markets that cover the seasonal patterns. Now I know those reading this would say the flies directly in the face of our initial tutorials on Money Traffic, but those tutorials just demonstrate a method of testing various keyword markets. Yes, you can also make some good money using the tutorial method (using Blogger accounts to create high quality blogspot blogs), but when you are really going to build a massive resource you should be using a domain name you own, and a quality web hosting server.

So I would suggest newcomers use the Money Traffic tutorials to get started with an all free option, so they can learn how to blog easily, learn how to create partnerships with other bloggers, and learn how monetize their pages. I would test a handful of keyword markets, and then find one that pays very well with Adsense, and perhaps as high converting merchant. Then once you have the winning blog established, buy your own domain name and hosting, and run a MONSTER blog on that topic. I don't suggest trying make a blog that just talks about how to blog for money though - people who visit sites like this one don't often click ads and they don't usually convert sales. I would build your monster blog around a basic product or service that normal people look for, and not around products or services that us Internet savvy types seek. (just my opinion here folks - to do well selling to people who are learning to sell, you have to have some serious clout)

First Step To Fixing The "Smart Pricing" Problem

I've seen some scuttlebut online regarding "Smart Pricing" affecting publisher's and their Adsense income. I've been affected a couple of time from the Smart Pricing problem, and this is my two cents on the deal.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with Smart Pricing click here. My quick and nasty explanation is simple. If your Adsense account has sites that recieve alot of traffic that just that does not (or deemed not to) convert well for Adwords advertisers, Google Adsense will start putting cheaper ads on your web site. This is all to protect the Adwords advertisers that spend some bigger bucks for their traffic. Keep in mind that Adwords is Google's bread and butter, so they are trying to protect advertisers as much as possible.

My speculation? We can only speculate how their system of Smart Pricing works, as there are many variables that will effect what the ads placed on your web pages, but I believe it's the following; (in order of importance)

1) Where your traffic is coming from. If the traffic you recieve to your pages is from a high grade source, such as the top of MSN, Yahoo!, or Google search results, Googles algo see this pattern and will award you with better paying ads. On the contrary, if your traffic mostly comes from crappy third tier traffic sources, the ads fed to your pages will pay less. If your traffic is mostly from emails, or forums, perhaps this also effects your Adsense dollars. Speculation yes - but I've tested it and it rings true.

2) Conversions for advertisers. If Adwords advertisers are seeing a high ROI (return on investment) from your traffic, you will be awarded with better paying ads.

3) Your CTR (click through rate) If your Adsense account CTR is higher, I believe the better paying ads will be placed on your pages. BUT only if speculations 1 & 2 are positive as well. If you have crappy traffic that won't convert for the Adwords advertiser, it won't matter what your CTR is - you'll still see low paying ads on your site.

4) My solution? How to keep the high paying Google ads on your site and avoid the Smart Pricing crunch. Work on the three positives above. Try working towards recieving the higher quality traffic, setup your pages for high CTR, and don't display Google Ads on your weaker, more pathetic sites. Use some other sort of monetizing on your lesser sites that get sporatic and fickle traffic. Keep only your premium sites in your Google account. This is also speculation of course, but the above worked for me.

Focus on more quality content and natural linking, to keep the Google bots loving your site(s) or blog(s).

They sell magnetic bracelets and magnet necklaces mostly, but they also sell chokers and anklets. Terry setup all their Paypal carts, and I focused on the blog itself.

Cool Blog I Found

Here is a blog I found recently that allows users to make their own posts. Very good idea. It's called Silii, which stands for SAY IT LIKE IT IS.

Users register, login and post their comments on any subject under the sun. There are some cool tutorials for beginners, showing how to register, login, and post.

What I find strange is that Silli is using a Wordpress blogging platform and the back end is customized. They also allow users to use up to 2 outbound links per article. They have administrators moderating at all times apparently.

Pretty smart idea.

Money Traffic Update

Well....Money Traffic has been up and running for around 2 months. Google did their update and it's presently showing a Google PR of 5. If you don't undertsand Google PR, click here.

Notice how when you include the address www in our domain you see a PR of 5, but when you remove the www you see a PR of 3. This is because other blogs are linking to us using the www in our address.

I'm not much on the PR thing. Don't really care. What I care about is traffic, and our traffic is beginning to climb on it's own now -- without posting on forums and posting at Digg, etc.

Blogspot To Be Blocked In India

Well..there goes all our traffic from India to Money Traffic. Read this article. India's government will be blocking all blogspot web addresses; India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) passed an order to ISPs Friday to block several websites.

www.blogspot.com, www.typepad.com and www.geocities.com are know to be on the list to get whacked. It's a real shame becuase Money Traffic gets alot of hits from our friends in India.

Since private sites will not be blocked, I suggest our visitors living in India bookmark the money traffic blogroll.

blog, I always include an BlogSend Address (located in the Email settings tab).
I do this so that in case my blog is ever deleted or banned for whatever reason,

I have no idea why his blogs were whacked, but his account is still live he tells me. I suggest reading the Blogger Terms Of Service closely if you intend to grow these Blogger niche blogs.

At this point I am no longer building blogger niche blogs. The ones I have I will maintain but I will be focusing on my Typepad, Movable Type, and Wordpress blogs in the future.

For further information on how to create and use the above mentioned blog platforms, please use my blogroll in the right sidebar. In the LONG run, your content will be safe on a domain you own and control.

Joel Comm Adsense Templates!

Kenny, decided I should post today and have good reason to do so! As I mentioned in my e-mail this morning, our good friend Joel Comm has come out with yet another gem! Yesterday, Joel released a package or software containing about 100 Adsense templates plus a site builder! He had only 1000 copies to sell and the price kept going up as the copies were selling out. So I purchased the package and can safely say that this is going to be fantastic. It not only contains website templates but he's also designed templates for Wordpress and Blogger blogs! So basically, the work is already done and all you have to do is come up with good content! Along with his package, Joel includes tutorial videos to teach beginners how to use his templates and site builder!

He sold out of the package shortly after the release but he emailed me this morning to tell me that he'd be releasing another version shortly! Highest Paying Keywords

Always alot of talk regarding what markets to get into. I bought Keyword Explosion which was great until they could no longer access Adwords data. Now it seems like they're just guessing. I dunno. Let me know your thoughts on it.

I tried Top Paying Keywords last week for finding the niche keywords that pay. I've tested their list with some PPC and so far I'm impressed. I'll let ya know later how a full site goes, but on the three keywords that I tried, they paid as advertised.

The problem I see with some of these so-called high paying Adsense keyword databases is this; they are basing their data on search traffic and not content traffic (clicks we get on our sites) Basically - many big advertisers that pay big for their ads choose only to have their ads displayed on Google's search, and not on publisher sites (ours) This is the problem Keyword Explosion had, and that their database was crippled with Google changing it's ways.

Top Paying Keywords has some good rep you can read about on their site.

Understanding eCPM

Since I have started blogging with blogger.com, I have noticed some things about Page eCPM...and I THINK I finally get it....kind-of.

I noticed that when I am working on my own blogs...posting...then vieweing...the posting etc...Google counts each time I visit my own page as a PAGE IMPRESSION. This can get a little confusing because I am never sure if those are MY page hits, or someone else coming to look at my blog.

The page eCPM counts ONLY those viewers that have done a search for your site. I can visit my own blog 1000 times/day...and I WILL NOT see ANY page eCPM. Once a 'real' viewer comes to your blog (by doing a search for it) Google will show an eCPM number.

Am I right about this? Has anyone else noticed that?

Money Traffic Starting To Gain Ground

Money Traffic is a very new blog, only housing 27 posts to date. A mere nothing as far as blogging goes. We've talked alot on this blog about ratios. Ratios as far as competing pages for particular keywords in comparison to how many people search a particular keyword. (see step one of the tutorial)

I noticed today that Money Traffic is now on the bottom of page two in Google for the keyword search, blogspot adsense. You can go to Google and try it - keeping in mind that depending on where you are and the latest updates, the listing positions may be different for your experience. You'll notice that the site above Money Traffic is Darren's Problogger.net. (If you have never surfed through Darren's site I highly recommend it.) You might take notice of his PR7 page rank as well.

Now.....competing pages for the keyword blogspot adsense is as follows:

Results 11 - 20 of about 1,620,000 for blogspot adsense

So not bad for a brand new blog with only 27 posts on it. I'm not writing a "boast post" here folks. I'm trying to give all new-comers some hope that their niche blogs will begin getting traffic and making money.

Remember that when you build your niche blogs using my tutorial, you are looking for competing pages much lower than 1.6 million as shown in the example above.

So keep building your niche blogs and keep adding periodic posts to all of them, and you will certainly receive traffic, and in turn, receive Adsense earnings.

Defining Quality Content

I was reading a semi-interesting article on content and how to define quality content. Since I have mentioned quality content so many times on this blog, I would like to share this little read with you.

See Aaron Wall's article on quality content to get his take on it. Here is his summary on quality content:

Each page you write is one more you need to maintain.
Large sitescan be a burden to keep current.
Speaking too much is just as bad as not giving enough info.

It is far easier to syndicate ideas than content.

No that you've read it, I want to say that I disagree. Quality content is content that PEOPLE value on their quest to find information. Whether the search engines like it, or a web site owner likes it enough to link to it, it not my definition of quality.

In short, and in my opinion, quality content is defined by the readers ability to gain the knowledge they need to solve a problem for them. Whether their problem is solved by purchasing Wrinkle Cream, or their problem is solved by finding the Weather forcast, or currency exchange. As Google's webmaster guidelines states......write pages that help visitors.

Another Great Niche Research Tool

Here is another great niche blog research tool. This was pointed by one of our keen contributers. It's called "Good Keywords". Good keywords is a free download and you can get it here.

I would use this tool during Step 1 of the free tutorial. We want very little competing pages in the search engines, and high traffic volume per month. Had quite a few emails from folks still thinking there is more to this. The answer is......no.

Write quality content and you will win. Period. Take a good look in Yahoo and MSN and search a variety of keywords - you will see blogspot blogs ranking everywhere. It's a powerful method of getting traffic.

Tracking Your Visitors

Had a good question on one of the posts regarding tracking. I use Statcounter. It's free and you can track unlimited projects. Just register, setup your first project, and create the code you need to put on your blog.

When you create the code for your blog, make sure to use the "invisible" tracker. Copy/paste the code for your project (blog) into the bottom of your sidebar. No-one sees it and you have details regarding how many unique visits, how many page impressions of your blog, what the originating IPs are, what town or city the visitor is in (even shows a world map and dot where the visitor is), how long they were on your blog, what pages they visited, what page or search engine they came from, and what kind of browser the visitor was using. Not bad for free right.

I would read Terry's post on tracking. He explains why he was losing alot of money because he failed to track one of his high traffic web sites. You can read it here.

Adsense Earning Page Removed

One of our contributors has requested that all his Adsense report pictures be removed from the Money Traffic blog. He believes that the Google TOS (terms of service) will soon change, and that displaying screen shots such as these will not be allowed.

I also favor removing all Adsense earnings pages because so many visitors dwell way too much on what others are earning, instead of getting down to work. I know that many beginners simply feel a sense of frustration when seeing sizable earnings made by other publishers.

No Tricks Missing...

I just want to point out that there are no tricks missing with the methodology used in my Blogger & Adsense tutorial. Usually people who claim to earn great profits from Adsense leave out some important details when they impress upon you the merits of their system. I don't do that. The steps outlined in my Blogger & Adsense tutorial are exactly the same ones I use - nothing fancy and nothing left out.

I've seen so-called gurus create a foaming-at-the-mouth effect when they tell their audience that they made massive profits with their so-called "side business". What they usally leave out is that their 500 web sites had been optimized for years before ever employing Adsense as a money earning model. What they usually leave out is how they are getting their traffic.

What my tutorial attempts to do is teach people how to get traffic using an easy and free blogging platform such as Blogger. The idea is that beginners can use their Blogger accounts, and my free tutorial, to begin their traffic flow.

Every niche blog is another trickle of income, and over time you can create many trickles. Remember that your free niche blog only needs to make one dollar a day to create an income of 30 dollars a month. Some blogs will make more of course, so you can begin to do the math. If you only make 5 blogs, you will never make a full time living. If you want to make a full time living at this, you need to get cracking and get blogging.

Start Off Slow & Sure

One of things I would like to stress when building niche blogs, is starting out slow. Make sure you take the time to create great content, find good niche markets, and of course use smart research strategies before you even start.

The urge to jump ahead is understandable when first starting out. The desire to finally make some money online is overwhelming for some beginners, but I would urge you to start with qulaity and not quantity. Why not write 10 highly informative pieces of content (posts) for your first Blogger/Adsense blog, and feel the satisfaction of releasing a serious blog. The pay off down the road will make it all worth it.

The other thing to keep in mind is patience. Your blogs will take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months before they see any traffic, so don't get frustrated. Just finish one blog and move on. Don't create one, then cross your arms and wait impatiently. Keep going. I assure you that this model works if you give it time.

Setting Adsense/Blogger Goals

I'm getting emails from people wondering how many blogs I have running in Blogger accounts, so I thought I would make a post on that. I have over 600 niche blogs in total. All of them are in Blogger accounts. It was a ton of work, but it's worth it to me. I hired some writers to help make posts along the way, so it was required.

What I want to enunciate in this post is goal setting. I never imagined I would ever have over 600 niche blogs. I started off with the goal of having 50 niche blogs. When I reached that goal, I worked towards 100. By the time I had 100 niche blogs, the first 50 were beginning to get traffic from the search engines. By the time I had 150 niche blogs, my first 50 were getting good traffic, and the second set of 50 were trickling in traffic. All niche blogs had Adsense on them of course.

Try to set your goals in a reasonable fashion. A commonsensical approach is what you need to have. A greedy attitude will get you nowhere fast. If your only goal is to make money, you won't make it. You need to enjoy creating your first couple of niche blogs with passion. Get excited thinking about how you are going to layout your blog. Get excited when you are researching your niche - and then write the best darn content you can muster up.

You need to be focused on is writing quality content on your chosen niche blogs, and quit spending all your time worrying about all the people making more money than you online. Just get started and stick to it. I see streams of people everyday, drooling over other people's commission reports, and then being disenchanted when the spider hasher, "get rich quick script" fails to bring in the promised 3 million bucks a month.

Take my advice and you will succeed with hard work and a love for writing. All those scripts, quicky sites, content robbers, all fail in time. Usually sooner than later. Once more, they usually cost money in the form of some cheesy ebook. What I'm trying to tell you is WRITE. The essence of all internet traffic is the written word. If you learn to write fresh, quality content, you can't lose.

I like to call it FQC (Fresh Quality Content) If you focus on FQC, you will succeed beyond your wildest dreams. So start now, and build a free niche blog, using your Blogger account. It's all free there to be used. Word of warning; don't try copying and pasting content and articles from other web sites or blogs, because the search engines see through that now, and you will likely get your blogs shutdown. Don't make splogs. Make blogs.

Optimizing Your Adsense Blog Content

I believe one of the reasons my niche Adsense blogs receive solid traffic is due to word variety and keyword variety. We have all heard that we need keyword rich pages if we want get some traffic, but I personally believe you need "word variety" as well.

Keyword Variety
Keyword variety is critical of course, and this is how I attain it on all my blog pages. Whenever I write another post on a niche blog, I take a close look at 5-8 other sites, and look at all the keywords they are using. I simply do a search in Google for the product or topic. I look at winning sites from the first two pages of results. I take note of all the different words, terms, and phrases they are using when talking about the product or topic. Then I write my post using as many of those keywords as possible. That covers the need for keyword rich content, or as I call it, "Keyword Variety"

Word Variety
Word Variety (as I have coined the phrase) is something different all together. This was just a hunch I had a year ago, but now that I've tested this hunch, I believe it to be true. All the niche blogs I tested this with have gained more traffic, so I recommend you try this. It's easy to do.

While you are writing your keyword rich content, and keyword varied content, keep an online thesaurus handy open in a separate browser. Try to use adjectives and nouns that are not the norm with all your competitor sites. For example: instead of writing - "This diamond ring has a brilliant look....." - replace the word "brilliant" with "scintillating", and replace the word "look" with "sheen"

What this does is separate your content from all the other web pages using all the same words to describe products and topics.

The Sacred Q's For Adsense Income

One of the questions I'm often asked is, "is how can you possibly make so much money from just using a Blogger account and Adsense." Well the answer is quality and quantity.

Quality
By keeping my focus on creating quality content (meaning helpful and accurate content) for my visitors, I attract on-topic Google ads to my blog pages, and my visitors are extremely targeted. Also, with extremely targeted and hungry consumers visiting my blogs, they are more inclined to click on a relevant Google ad.

Quantity
By sticking to a schedule, I create a ridiculous number of Blogger blogs. These blogs may only have 6-10 pages of content, so I can create hundreds, and some day thousands. Since my content is fresh, original, and on-topic (as mentioned above), the traffic to my blogs is huge. Each blog trickles in money everyday, and some niche blogs pour in money. The overall total of income created each day ads up to serious income. My sites are not using robbed content, my posts are helpful to visitors and shoppers, so my sites are not at risk for being removed from the search engine indexes. I don't stray off to gimmicky offers that claim to make me a millionaire over night using Adsense. I don't bother with phoney baloney scripts that create Adsense sites in the hundreds with just one click. I don't use "Adsense Ready" sites because the code behind those sites is recognized for what it is. People just starting out on the internet often think that online income is easy income. Far from the truth. If you really want to succeed online, then listen to my good advice, and learn to write your own, original content.

Optimizing Your Adsense Blog For Search

Today I just want to mention a quick tip for niche blogging. What I have found through testing is that most of these niche blogs will do quite well in MSN and Yahoo! search. Not as well in Google as there is usually many more competing pages. My tests have shown that having all your posts on the main is not as effective as having only 2-3 medium sized posts.

To set the main page of your niche blog for Yahoo! and MSN traffic, I recommend changing your blog's setting for 2-3 posts and leave all other posts as "recent posts" in your sidebar, and of course archives.

To do this;

Select your blog's "Settings" tab.
Select the "Formatting" tab.
In the "Show" category select the drop down choice to "Posts"
Select the number to 2 or 3, depending on the size of your posts.

What this does is ensure you don't load up to much content on the home page of your blog, making it come across similar to a static site, with a menu of links to more information on the niche topic. This works well for your MSN and Yahoo! search engine rankings.

If you plan to have only a few niche blogs, then you likely have time to add many posts over time, in which case you could see great results in Google searches as well. I would suggest just having 2-3 posts on the main page and at least 5 posts in the recent posts area, and let it sit for awhile.

Important Tip:

Make sure the 2-3 posts that reside on the main page (most recent of course) are filled with content and information regarding the main keyword of your niche - this way the search engines (and people) will find your niche blog to be worthy of traffic.

So now you should have your new blog on it's way. Hopefully you have 5-10 quality posts on your niche blog, and you have your Adsense ad(s) down the sidebar. Hopefully you have played with the blogger template choices, as well as your Adsense code color choices, so your layout is pleasing to your visitors.

Speaking of visitors, we need to submit your blog to the main search engines. I only worry about the "big three". Google, MSN, and Yahoo!. The rest seem to take care of themselves. Don't worry about Google because you have a Blogger account, and they know where you live. ;-) It's a good idea to submit your blog to MSN and Yahoo!, and I want to show you how I do that.

MSN
Go to MSN search and type in "MSN Submit Site" and their submission page should be the top result. Usually the URL of their submission page ends with .aspx. The reason I do a search for the MSN submit page is because they change the address periodically. Once your reach their submission page, simply copy/paste your blog's URL address into the field and click submit. That's it. One last thing though. Don't re-submit! If you are not sure whether or not you submitted one of your blogs, wait at least three weeks before submitting again. You don't want to be seen as a spammer.

Yahoo!
Yahoo is a little different for submitting your blog. Go to Yahoo! search and search a keyword that is exactly the same keyword you built your blog around. My example site was Diabetic Socks, so I would type that in the Yahoo! search field, and click "Yahoo! Search"

When the results of your search are displayed, scroll down to the very bottom right hand side of the results page. You are looking for the "Submit Your Site" link. It's very small, and very humble, but very important :-) You will likely be asked to sign in under a Yahoo! username, which you need to submit your site. If you don't have a Yahoo! account, sign up here. The page will dulled until you scroll down and select your country. Sign up, and then go back try this process again.

Once you are back at the free site submission page in Yahoo!, you will see two fields - one for your blog's address URL, and one for your blog's feed url. Submit your blog's address first, then click back and submit your blog's feed URL address.

For all blogspot blogs, the feed address ends with /atom.xml: example = http://yourblog.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Ok, that is it for this 7 step process for creating a niche blog with your Blogger account. Make sure your content is helpful to your visitors, ad links to other quality sites to enhance their visiting experience, tweak your template and posts with pictures (royalty free pictures) . As a rule of thumb, you want at least 7-10 good posts and you can let it go for quite awhile.

If you stick with quality content, you really cannot lose. There is some work to this, but I would rather be doing this than digging ditches.

Blogger & Adsense - Step 6

Ok, it's time to add your Adsense code to your blogger template. I would recommend you directly customize your template instead of using the blogger provided "1 click" method. Once you learn to do this you can have much better control of your blog's feel and look.

Use the setup tab in your Adsense account to create a channel for your blog, then create a Wide Skycraper ad using the Adsense interface. Copy the code (they make it very easy to do), then save it in a text file on your desktop.

Now access your blogger account and click the "change settings" icon. Once in, click the "Template" tab. Now scroll down the template code area until you see a bit of code that says this: Now paste your Adsense code as shown in the picture above. (you'll have to click the picture to see it clearly).

Once you have the Adsense code pasted in as above, click the "Save Template Changes" button.
If your blog is all messed up, go back into the template and remove your code. Make sure your Adsense code matches your blog's colors, make sure you try other ad types, until you have a color scheme and ad type that fit's your chosen template.

You'll see in my example blog, how I changed the template to one that has a white background in the sidebar area, and also you will notice the ads are on-topic.
